Newark Town Hall.
Newark Museums Service has over 70,000 items in its collection with social history being a prominent theme. Millgate Museum has the following on permanent display:
- Agriculture (tools, seed drills, blacksmith’s forge)
- Trades and industry (machinery, malsters’ wooden tools, canvas boots etc)
- Shops and streets (Post Office, chemist’s, ironmonger’s, public house, cobbler’s, tobacconist’s and sweet shop)
- Domestic displays (laundry, kitchen, parlour)
- Newark in the two World Wars (local regiments, life during wartime and the inter-war period)
The Resource Centre (based near Newark North Gate station) offers a research service that provides access to objects and archives that are not on display.
Newark Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery, as well as being the home of Newark Town Council, opened a fully accredited Civic Museum in September 1999. The collections include:
- Civic plate, insignia and regalia
- Town charters from 1549
- Gifts to the town dating from the 16th century
- Furniture
- A collection of fine art, including works by local artists Sir William Nicholson and Robert Kiddey
